NEGATIVE IMPACT OF GATES ON TRADERS AT KANESHIE MARKET

THE NEGATIVE IMPACT OF GATES ON TRADERS AT KANESHIE MARKET

Kaneshie market is one of the biggest market in Accra,Ghana. It is a trading center built in the 1970’s.The  name “Kaneshie” emerged referring to its beginning as a night market meaning under the lamp.
Kaneshie  market is a well built structure with various segments for product and services. The market has many entrances and exits that are been locked daily for the safety of traders and protection of goods in the market.Traders safety at the market is a priority, but in the case of Kaneshie market,it is to their disadvantage.
Vendors sales have decreased drastically due to the delay on opening of the market. Some customers prefer to buy their stuff very early in the morning, but due to the market’s strict rules they end losing their customers.
People move  from Kaneshie to buy food stuff very early in the morning only to realize the market is locked, then they tend to go to other markets like Agbobloshie,Mallam market just to mention a few.
Speaking to a trader she complained of this situation affecting their sales  and making operations slow  for them at the market.
